Professional Development Goals
Capstone Goals
Goal 1: By November 2025, I will successfully develop and implement the Circle of Friends program for older adults at Chesterwood Senior Living.
-Objective 1: I will complete the Circle of Friends facilitator training prior to the first group session.
-Objective 2: I will submit for and gain IRB approval by August 2025.

Goal 2: By December 2025, I will disseminate the results of my capstone project during Xavier University's Capstone Symposium
-Objective 1: I will create a poster to present during the symposium with the results of my capstone
-Objective 2: I will talk to my faculty mentor about potentially publishing my capstone findings

Goals for 1 Year Post-Graduation
Goal 1: Within one year of graduating, I will obtain a job working with older adults or in acute care.
-Objective 1: Obtain a level II fieldwork placement in a setting working with older adults or in acute care.
-Objective 2: Apply to job postings and accept a job for a full-time OT position in a preferred setting (SNF, LTAC, LTCF, acute care).

Goal 2: Within one year of graduating, I will become a fieldwork educator.
-Objective 1: Complete 1 full year at first job and gain competence in current practice area
-Objective 2: Gain approval from supervisor to accept a level I or II student
-Objective 3: Reach out to Stacia to obtain a contract with Xavier to begin accepting students.

Goal 3: Within one year of graduating, I will complete at least 10 hours of CEUs related to geriatrics/older adults.
-Objective 1: Identify courses or presentations on AOTA/OOTA that pertain to the field of geriatrics that would benefit my patients or develop my skills
-Objective 2: Attend the Occupational Therapy Capstone Symposium at XU to listen to/view presentations from students related to the field of geriatrics.

Goals for 5 Years Post-Graduation
Goal 1: I will begin the process of becoming board-certified in Geriatrics within 5 years of graduating.
-Objective 1: Gain a minimum of 3 years of experience as an OT.
-Objective 2: Gain 500 hours of service delivery with older adults.
-Objective 2: Gain 3000 hours of experience with older adults.

Goal 2: Within 5 years of graduating, I will accept and mentor an OTD student completing a capstone project at the facility I work with.
-Objective 1: Discuss with supervisor potential needs and projects for a capstone student to complete
-Objective 2: Reach out to local doctoral capstone coordinators to volunteer as a site mentor

Goal 3: Within 5 years of graduating, I will identify and explore ways to become an adjunct at a local OTD program.
-Objective 1: Identify a topic area that my knowledge and experience applies to and develop a presentation to present as a guest lecturer.
-Objective 2: Reach out to contacts at Xavier or UC to guest lecture and explore pathways to becoming an adjunct
